Polyurethane Grout for Ground Improvement

Polyurethane grout for ground improvement is the application of plural component geotechnical polyurethanes to increase the density and stability of in-situ soils. Polyurethane grouting for ground improvement has been in use in United States since the 1950’s. For a period from the 1990s to the 2010’s the use of plural component geotechnical polyurethane grouts was largely covered by patents held by Uretek. The patents have since expired. The process is in use in lieu of cementitious grouts for the following applications throughout the United States:

• slab stabilization
• compaction grouting
• settlement correction
• bulkhead & sea wall repairs

Longevity

Settlement usually starts with poorly consolidated underlying soils.  CJGrout polyurethane grouts are significantly lighter than traditional cement based grouts, but still provide excellent bearing capacities.  Using polyurethane grout decreases the burden on underlying soils. This helps to reduce the likelihood of resettlement from increases in dead loads.  The half life of geotechnical polyurethanes is generally greater than 150 years.
