The Job
CJGeo performed this Nashville annular space grouting project at Nashville’s Central WWTP. The plant is undergoing extensive improvements to provide service to a growing population. As part of an upgrade, the crew slip-lined 400 linear feet of 66″ pipe.
The Challenge
Once the carrier pipe was selected, the space around its 57.1″ OD needed to be filled. The new foundation installation was adjacent to the slip-lined pipe, which created a relatively high compressive strength requirement. Annular space grouting projects are very sensitive to carrier pipe buoyancy control.

The Solution
CJGeo proposed using CJFill-Standard cellular grout at 45lb/cuft for this project. CJFill-ST is batched onsite directly from bulk cement, which eliminated supply chain issues. The selected CJFill-ST only weighs 45lb/cuft. Buoyancy control of the new carrier was simple by filling it with water, ensuring it would not float during grouting.
This allowed CJGeo to grout the entire annulus in a single lift, which significantly reduces the likelihood of partial fills, fouled injection tubing, or trapped voids. A CJGeo crew placed the 87 cubic yards of CJFill-ST in less than an hour. CJGeo’s mobile batch plants all use high shear colloidal mixing, which results in better mix quality.
