The Job
This New York compaction grouting project is located in Binghamton. CJGeo worked for an industrial contractor as part of their on-call contract with a manufacturing facility. Long term settlement of an interior column at the facility resulted in damage to the roof. Exploratory geotechnical investigation uncovered uncontrolled fill, abandoned utilities and compressible soils in the area of the column, which had settled 16 inches.

Surface return of the CJGrout 20SDB.
The Challenge
The design team determined that replacing the footing and splicing the column was the best repair. To minimize future settlement, the new column footing was installed on four helical piles. This addressed concerns about the column, but not the surrounding floor, which was not practical to support with piles.
The Solution
CJGeo worked with the geotechnical and structural consultants, along with the industrial contractor, to design a polyurethane compaction grouting program around the column. The goal of the program was to seal the utilities, and densify the uncontrolled fill.

Installing the grout tubes.
A single polyurethane grouting crew performed the work over two days onsite. CJGrout 20SDB was the most appropriate material, given the large voids in the area of the abandoned utilities.
