Michigan Thermal Grouting

The Job

This Michigan thermal grouting project was for DTE, and is located north of Lansing.  To tie a new solar facility to the grid, underground transmission lines needed to cross under the Great Lakes Railroad right-of-way.

The Challenge

The underground transmission design team specified two jack & bore crossings under the railroad.  Each crossing required thermal grout with a maximum thermal resistivity of 65 °C-cm/W, continuous pressure & temperature monitoring, and a minimum compressive strength of 300psi.

The Solution

CJGeo determined that our CJTherm TM-5 thermal grout would be an ideal fit for this project.  Both bores were grouted in a single day onsite.  Confirmation of fill was uniform grout venting from the far end 12 o'clock vent port.  After completing the work, CJGeo used Geotherm of Houston, Texas, to test the as-placed CJTherm TM-5 for thermal resistivity.
