The Job

This Florida polyurethane grouting job is located in Miami, adjacent to the Kaseya Center, on Biscayne Boulevard.  The rail spur serving the Port of Miami crosses the pedestrian plaza adjacent to the arena.  Over time, poor drainage and heavy rail traffic resulted in extensive settlement of the modular grade crossing panels in the plaza.  The settlement also extended into a lane of Biscayne Boulevard.

The Challenge

This work was needed due to anticipated heavy pedestrian traffic for a Formula 1 race.  Because the crossing is the freight rail access to the Port of Miami, minimizing potential impact to rail traffic was crucial.

The Solution

CJGeo proposed polyurethane grouting with CJGrout 60NHL geotechnical polyurethane grout. The 60NHL formula specifically handles heavy-duty lifting for infrastructure like rail crossings and air fields. CJGeo mobilized a single polyurethane grouting crew to the site, who performed the work in a single onsite shift.

The repair work avoided disrupting rail traffic; one train moved into the port during the grouting process, passing over grout that had cured for fewer than 20 minutes but had already reached 95% of its ultimate strength.
