Project Number: 6444

The Job

CJGeo performed this South Carolina polyurethane grouting project in Richland County. It supports the Scout Motors facility mega project, one of the largest earth-moving operations in the country. The project included a new stormwater impoundment. Articulating concrete mats protect this earthen embankment.

A 15-inch RCP low-flow drain sits at the bottom. The structure controls the discharge of stormwater flows, but it experienced significant settling after construction.

Performing the polyurethane grouting.

The Challenge

Once the project team identified the settlement, they sought a repair requiring minimal site disturbance. Difficult access and the structure’s critical role in the stormwater system made this necessary. They asked CJGeo about densifying the embankment soils and filling sub-surface voids without reconstructing the structure.

The Solution

CJGeo proposed polyurethane grouting using CJGrout 22SHV geotechnical polyurethane. Crews inject this material through half-inch tubing. Workers can easily install this tubing by hand through loose soils to reach the required project depths.  The project took more than 19,000 pounds of 22SHV, injected through around 3,600 feet of injection tubing.
