Solution – Lightweight Fill
Service – Pit, Tank & Basement Fills
The Job
This lightweight fill project is located at Orchard Beach, in The Bronx. CJGeo’s work is part of a reconstruction of the historic bathhouse. The structure was originally built in the 1930s, so was due for a significant overhaul to improve safety, sustainability, and amenities.

CJFill-Standard poured to the final elevation.
The Challenge
The original design for this project required the contractor to pour approximately 750 cubic yards of flowable fill in the basement. Due to very low headroom, and long pumping distances, they sought out an alternative material. Constraints were a minimum 28 day compressive strength of 500psi, and ability to easily pump approximately 600 linear feet. Due to winter placement, the material also had to tolerate cold weather generation & placement.
The Solution
CJGeo proposed 50lb/cuft CJFill-Standard cellular concrete. When generated with one of our dry batch plants, it exceeds 500psi at 28 days. It is also easily pumped hundreds of feet, and can be generated in the winter without special considerations. CJGeo mobilized a dry batch plant to the site, and filled the basement pits over a period of three days. An added benefit was the reduction in truck traffic, as each load of bulk dry cement is equivalent to nearly 9 ready mix trucks.
