Arch Bridge Lightweight Fill
The Job
This arch bridge lightweight fill project is located in Franklin County, Ohio. It is the rehabilitation of an arch bridge, where CJGeo placed 1600 cubic yards of CJFill-Ultra Lightweight cellular concrete to reduce loads on the structure.

Placement of the CJFill-UL.
The Challenge
The design engineer mandated the removal of all standard unit weight fill material from the arches. The contractor needed to replace this heavy material with a low density cellular concrete fill. The project specifications required a maximum density of 35 pounds per cubic foot. The new fill also needed a minimum unconfined compressive strength of 80 psi.
The Solution
CJGeo proposed using CJFill-Ultra lightweight cellular concrete for this application. This material provides a 30 pound per cubic foot density. It also delivers a 28-day unconfined compressive strength of 150 psi. CJGeo mobilized a dry batch cellular concrete generation crew to the site. The crew placed 1600 cubic yards of the CJFill-Ultra Lightweight material over four days. CJGeo utilizes specialized high shear mixing equipment during cellular concrete production. This advanced equipment allowed the general contractor to start placing road base over the fill the very next day.
